SIN AND THE MESSIAH

If you have read my thoughts on the "Fall" , you know that I do not think that original sin is a valid concept. Since I doubt that I will be able to persuade anyone so inclined to believe, I will not belabor the point any more here. Instead, for those who do believe in original sin, a simple question: why do you think Moon has solved this problem? Besides faith in Moon's accomplishing the spiritual conditions to lay the foundation for true Adam and the ideal family, etc.etc., what do you see to support this faith? What does he have to show for his elevated status?

The UC loves to point to the problems of the world as proof of the fall, that this is a godless, sinful place. Drug abuse, free sex, divorce, murder - how terrible is the fallen human condition. Clearly something is fundamentally wrong with mankind, as this can't be God's ideal. Yet when these problems are evident in the true family, all of a sudden it becomes different. Why not apply the same standard, the same yardstick? Or put in another way, if the "true family" can be as it is, why believe in fallen nature at all? But the central core of UC life is belief in the sinless messiah. How wonderful the first true Adam, the first true man, is here to finally conquer sin and establish true family. He has more value than all humanity combined. (Who didn't hear the story of how God wanted to destroy all of fallen humanity, but SMM interceded to save our lives?) The kingdom of heaven is here now, on this Earth. The purpose of creation has been fulfilled, the new history has begun, centering on sinless messiah and true family. But how do we know this is true? What makes anyone think there is some fundamental difference between true family and the average human condition?

The fact is, there is nothing. Not one thing can be seen in the true family that indicates anything other than just plain folks. In fact, every one of the fallen, sinful conditions pointed to in the fallen world as proof of fallen nature is abundantly evident in the true family. I don't need to go through the litany of the true families problems - they have been evident to anyone familiar with them first hand, and amply documented by Nan Sook and others. And I'm not asking that they be "super" people, with super powers, living breathing gods on Earth - I'm willing to cut anyone a little slack. I have reasonable expectations as to what to expect from human beings. I have no personal animosity towards anyone in the true family (and a lot of respect for those who had the integrity to walk away from the charade, who, as one daughter said, "got tired of pretending") But the true family has almost redefined what it means to be dysfunctional.

Who is really satisfied by fine theological distinctions between "sinlessness" , "fallen nature", and "imperfection"? By elaborate explanations about just where in the "three stages of growth" to perfection the true family is? Who is really convinced by the rationalizations "Father sacrificed his family for the mission" or "Of course people are still fallible, sinless or not"? Who really believes that there must be some providential reason to explain SMM's son Sammy (by someone other than HJH) - after all, the principle is the principle, and the four position foundation is a central "principle of creation". God couldn't violate the principle to prevent the fall, so how can we set the principle aside to accommodate this? What confirms your faith that there has been a change in the "blood lineage" ? The guts and essence of the DP is "sinless Adam starts sinless true family". When all the evidence indicates that there is nothing different about them than anyone else, a reasonable person would have to pause and reflect.
